Hoosiers Land Three-Star JUCO Linebacker Mike McGinnis

Indiana's linebacking corps got the veteran shot in the arm it needed when Mike McGinnis committed to the Hoosiers on Sunday afternoon via Twitter. Current Indiana linebackers Tegray Scales and Marcus Oliver will be heading into their final year of eligibility should they decide to stay (Chris Covington will also be a senior), so adding a player who is ready to step in is huge for the improving Indiana defense.

McGinnis was an honorable mention Junior College All-American as ASA College in Brooklyn, NY. He is from Allentown, New Jersey and walked onto the team at Miami (FL.) after high school. The 6-foot-3 230 is ranked as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports Composite rankings. In his two seasons at ASA College he totaled 115 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and four sacks. He will have two years of eligibility and be able to enroll in January and participate in spring practice.

His statement on Twitter reads, "this has been a long journey and process these past couple of years. I am very happy and excited to say it is officially over. After long deliberation and consideration, I have decided that I am committing to Indiana University!!! I would like to thank all the programs that extended me an offer, it was a great honor to be considered by each school. I feel as if Indiana best fits my needs and goals for the future. With that said, I am proud to officially become a Hoosier!!!!"

McGinnis's commitment gives the Hoosiers 17 commits in the 2017 class and bump them up to 56th nationally. He will enroll mid-year and have two years of eligibility.
