The Indiana Football program picked up a big commit in quarterback Tayven Jackson today. Jackson is a young quarterback who will be looking to take over the Hoosiers quarterback position for 2023 and beyond. Jackson displays tremendous talent and was offered by the Hoosiers out of Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana but choose the University of Tennessee.
This past season Jackson made some strides in his career, getting some playing time in wins against UT Martin and Akron. Standing at 6-foot-3 Jackson displays a dual-threat ability with great pocket presence. He has the ability to feel and step up in the pocket like Michael Penix used to do during the 2020 season.
During his time at Center Grove High School, Jackson was a leader leading his team to state championships. He was a 4-star prospect and 12th ranked quarterback in the class according to 247Sports.
Allen Trieu of 247Sports said Jackson is an “athletic passer with good physical traits. Has height and the body to fill in. Multi-sport guy who does athletic tasks fluidly and easily on the field. Mohile and elusive in the pocket. Can take off and make plays with his feet. Gets rid of the ball quickly, does not try to hold it too long or sandlot play despite his athleticism. Did not throw a high volume of balls in high school compared to other top quarterback recruits and must continue to polish pure passing skills and mechanics. May need a year or two in college, but has a high ceiling.”
Jackson was recruited by former offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan but is expected to be one of the front runners for the Hoosiers quarterback job. Current offensive coordinator Walt Bell must be ecstatic about the addition of Jackson.
