Hoosiers Land Auburn Transfer Jaren Handy

The Indiana Hoosiers received a commitment from Auburn transfer Jaren Handy on Wednesday evening. Handy, a former four-star recruit, is a sophomore and played the last two seasons for the Tigers. He has played in 14 career games and has 10 total tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack to his name. Handy is also the cousin of current Hoosier Ty Fryfogle. He hails from New Augusta, Mississippi.
According to Barton Simmons of 247Sports who did his high school scouting report Handy is a “big-bodied edge defender with a powerful lower half. Operates primarily on the edge in high school both with a hand down and as a stand-up pass rusher. Fast, twitchy athlete that runs well in pursuit and downfield. Plays fast and arrives at the football aggressively. Has some healthy recklessness to his game. Very raw in terms of hand usage and pad level. Plays very upright. An upside prospect that needs to be reigned in and polished up but will develop into an impact Power Five starter that projects as an early round NFL Draft pick.”
Handy was listed at Auburn at six-foot-five and 252 pounds. The Hoosiers needed some reinforcements along the defensive line after a lot of attrition from the group this offseason. Handy is the third defensive line transfer into IU joining Ryder Anderson and Weston Kramer. He has all the tools to become an impact player for the Hoosiers.
Hoosier Huddle will have more on this as it develops.
