Getting punter from Australia has become the norm in college football and the Hoosiers found it to be the right time to dip into the well for themselves as punter Haydon Whitehead committed to Indiana on Twitter in the wee hours Thursday morning. Whitehead gives the Hoosiers 16 commitments in the 2017 class.
Whitehead participated in the ProKick Australia program, an organization that helps place Australian kickers into American colleges and the pros run by former Green Bay Packer Nathan Chapman.
Indiana had trouble in the punting game in the 2016 season as sophomore Joseph Gedeon finished 86th nationally with a 40.04-yard per punt average. Gedeon also had three punts blocked. One of new Hoosier head coach Tom Allen's mission for the program is to get better on special teams.
