Hoosiers Gain A Late Night Commitment from Three-Star Prospect Caleb Murphy

Tom Allen and the Hoosier staff received great news as Hoosier Nation was climbing into bed when in-state defensive line prospect Caleb Murphy tweeted out that he is committing to IU.

The late-night #LEO comes from a three-star prospect from the tiny southern Indiana town of Campbellsburg who, according to Wikipedia and the 2010 Census data, has a population of 585.

Murphy is a mid-three-star prospect who may have been over looked due to the remote location of Campbellsburg. He is listed by 247Sports as the 11th best player in the state. Murphy only tips the scales at 235, but should have the frame at 6’5” to bulk up to 260+ and have the body of a Big Ten defensive end. 

Murphy had a big junior season at West Washington High School with 84 tackles with 11 tackles for loss and two sacks. While the total tackle number is high, he will need to be more disruptive in the backfield to be a difference maker. Murphy also played tackle along the offensive line. He is a player who seems to love physicality and can be seen multiple times plowing opponents into the ground 10-15 yards up field. Fans can watch Caleb Murphy’s HUDL film here.

Murphy made his announcement via Twitter Tuesday night saying, “after a great talk with Coach Allen I’m blessed to say I’ve received an offer from my dream school, Indiana University! I want to thank my family and my coaches for everything they have done for me to make me who I am. I also want to thank all the schools who offered me and gave me such great opportunities. I most importantly want to thank God for giving me the ability to play the game. All this being said, I’m 100% committed to Indiana University to continue my academic and athletic career.”

Murphy had 16 total offers, mainly from Group of Five schools, however he was drawing interest from other Power Five schools like Minnesota and Iowa.

Murphy is the Hoosiers fifth commitment of the 2020 class and the second on the defensive side of the ball. As of publication, the Hoosiers’ 2020 class sits 49th nationally and 9th in the Big Ten according to 247 Sports.
