The future of Indiana’s offensive line got a big boost Friday evening as Stanford offensive lineman Dylan Powell announced his intentions to transfer to Indiana. Powell’s commitment lightens the blow of the graduation of guard Simon Stepaniak and center Hunter Littlejohn. During his career at Stanford, Powell played in 20 games bouncing between the guard and center positions. Powell, who stands at six-foot-three and weighs 281 pounds, did not play in 2019 after entering the NCAA Transfer Portal in October.

Powell was a three-star lineman out of Hannibal High School in New London, Missouri. He is looking to get his MBA from the Kelley School of Business and was a second team All-Academic Pac-12 selection in 2018.

In an interview with Matt Weaver of Peegs.com Powell said that, “I just felt really comfortable with the coaches after I visited there. When I was able to sit down with Coach (Tom) Allen and Coach (Darren) Hiller I just felt so comfortable. They genuinely care about their players, and I can tell the players love playing for them. I’m just excited to get the chance to work with them and the players. I felt real comfortable around the players when I was there, and I can’t wait to get there and get to work with them.”

The addition of Powell, who is eligible to play in 2020, could give the Hoosiers a very formidable offensive line in 2020. Assuming Coy Cronk returns for a fifth season, the Hoosiers line could be Matthew Bedford and Caleb Jones at the tackle positions while Coy Cronk slides into the interior of the line giving Powell and Crider the opportunity to battle it out for the other guard and center position. Powell will be on campus for spring practice. Powell also told Peegs.com that he plans on submitting an appeal for a sixth season, so he could be a Hoosier for the 2021 season as well.
