‘The fix is in!’ IU fans have been screaming this forever it seems when it comes to the Hoosier football program and it has never been as loud as the last few weeks. On a day that should be a big day for Hoosier football, where they earned a trip to another January bowl game in Florida, the anger from Hoosier Nation has been focused on the Big Ten, Gary Barta and the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

Former Indiana athletic director Fred Glass, who retired in June, joined the fans in voicing his anger and confirming what many already believed to be true.

“I’m not AD anymore, nor officially affiliated with IU, so I can tell you what I think and that is this:” Glass said in a statement put out by Zach Osterman of the Indy Star, “Our program, our coach and our kids got done in by the good-old-boy Big Ten football power structure. There are influential people who don’t want Indiana to be good in football. They’re used to coming into our state and poaching our best high school players, and counting us as a W on their schedules. That’s why they don’t advocate for us. Is there any real doubt we’re the second-best team in the conference? Look at the polls, even the CFP. Look at the common opponents. To those who are trying to kill a resurgent Indiana football program, I say, it’s not going to work. You’re just putting more logs on the fire. I love Tom Allen and I love these kids.”

Glass has been in the room and on the Zoom calls. He has no reason to make this stuff up. Regardless of people’s opinion of the job Glass did at IU, he is a smart guy, he’s not going to take a shot at the Big Ten without knowing what he is talking about.

Under Glass, Indiana football had a resurgence. Glass brought in Kevin Wilson who started to turn the ship around by taking the team to two-straight bowl games and turning the tide against rival Purdue. Glass also picked Tom Allen to be the head coach after Kevin Wilson resigned over philosophical differences. This year’s Outback Bowl will be Indiana’s 13th ever bowl appearance. Three of those have occurred while Glass was AD and this year’s game has his finger prints all over it. Glass has also upgraded Indiana’s facilities and enclosed Memorial Stadium.

Fans knew the fix has been it, but it’s finally good to see someone who has been in the room acknowledge it.
