Defensive Coordinator Charlton Warren Leaving IU for Old Stomping Grounds UNC

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The Indiana Hoosiers will have to replace another coordinator prior to the 2022 season as defensive coordinator Charlton Warren was announced as the co-defensive coordinator at the University of North Carolina on Saturday, just a day after defensive line coach Kevin Peoples left for a position at Missouri. The Hoosiers defense finished 10th in the Big Ten in total defense, 11th in pass defense, 8th in run defense and 14th in scoring defense in 2021 when they went 2-10. Warren was UNC’s defensive backs coach in 2015 and 2016.

Warren said in a statement released by UNC saying "my family and I couldn't be more excited to be returning to Chapel Hill, I obviously followed the Tar Heels since leaving, and you can see that the program is on the cusp of something special. They've recruited extremely well, and have a roster of talented players I'm really looking forward to working with. I want to thank Coach Brown and the administration for extending me this opportunity, and I can't wait to get to work with the staff at North Carolina."

The Hoosiers could go several routes with the hiring of a new defensive coordinator. Allen is a defensive coach and can take over the position, he could also hire from within or go outside the program for the hire. We will keep you updated as this situation develops.
