#69

We are now in the “dog days of summer” as we continue on the Hoosier Huddle Countdown. There are only 69 days remaining until the Hoosiers begin the season at Florida International University. Today, we turn our focus to a former Leatherneck defensive lineman, Gavin Everett.

Gavin Everett

-Height: 6’3”
-Weight: 239 pounds
-Hometown: Center Grove, IN (Center Grove High School)
-Position: Defensive Line

Indiana high school football has gotten dramatically better in the past two decades and winning at the higher classes of football is no easy task. However, as a standout player for Eric Moore and the Center Grove Trojans, Gavin Everett helped lead his team to three conference titles (a conference with schools like Carmel High School, Ben Davis High School and Warren Central High School), four sectional titles and four regional titles. His strong play earned him All-State and All-Conference honors as a senior and he was selected as the 2014 Indiana Super Team. Everett decided to become a Western Illinois Leatherneck, an FCS program, and he redshirted the 2015 season before electing to transfer to Indiana and walk-on to the football team.

Everett accumulated 35 tackles (12 for loss) and 10 sacks as a senior at Center Grove and his size makes him a good candidate for the Bull position as a rush end in Tom Allen’s defense. He doesn’t figure to factor in to the playing rotation but he is eligible to play and this is a position of need for the Hoosiers after transitioning from a 3-4 to the new 4-2-5 formation. If Everett can impress new defensive line coach Mark Hagen and defensive coordinator Tom Allen, he may be able to find his way on to the field as a member of the line rotation or as a special teams player. He still has four seasons of eligibility remaining so there is plenty of time for this former Indiana high school standout to make an impact in Bloomington.
