There are now 59 days remaining until the Indiana Hoosiers kick-off the 2016 season in Miami against the Florida International Golden Panthers. Join us each day for each part of our 100-day countdown to the opener! Today is the day to focus on Jack Trainor, so here we go!
Jack Trainor
-Height: 6’2”
-Weight: 312 pounds
-Hometown: Roswell, Georgia
-Position: Offensive Line
Depth, depth, depth. No matter the position, no matter the program, everyone needs depth all over the field. While Jack Trainor has yet to play a snap, he has undoubtedly helped the team improve. Coming from the football mad state of Georgia, Trainor has been around big time football his whole life, and this type of experience is what Coach Wilson and his staff are constantly trying to add to the program. He lettered three years at The Marist School, in addition to being a four-year letter winner for wrestling. There are a good amount of wrestlers on the team now, and Coach Wilson has joked around about all of them going at it one day in practice. That would be some good entertainment.
On the football side of things, Trainor enters his second season in Bloomington, after walking on and redshirting last year. He projects as an interior player up front, which is a place where Indiana is already loaded for next year and beyond. While he may not play much in the coming seasons on the five-man line, he will likely make his mark on special teams and in practice. If you don’t believe that having quality guys battling in practice as well as up front on special teams makes teams better, then you are very, very wrong. If Trainor can prove his worth in practice and or on the kick/punt units this season, he may have a shot to win a backup role for his final two seasons. Trainor is a quality piece to have on a team, but unfortunately for him, Indiana has had really talented offensive lines in the recent seasons. This trend will continue in the near future, which means that Trainor will have to contribute in ways that most people will never see.
We here at Hoosier Huddle see Jack, and we salute you. Kickoff is close people, hang in there.
