There are now 96 days until the Hoosiers season opener against Ohio State on August 31st. While you’re enjoying your holiday weekend take some time away from the BBQ and see where defensive lineman Derrian Meminger may fit into the 2017 defense.

 Derrian Meminger (Junior)

-Height: 6’4”

-Weight: 270 pounds

-Hometown:Rockdale, Georgia

-Position: Defensive End

Meminger arrived in Bloomington as part of the 2014 recruiting class. He was a 2-star recruit out of Sparta, Georgia. In high school Meminger played both ways and earned all-region honors as a senior on defense and all-state honors as a junior on the offensive side of the ball.

He redshirted his first season on campus. In 2015, Meminger did not see the field but did earn Scout Team Player of the Week twice (Penn State and Purdue) by providing valuable looks as the opponent’s defense.

Meminger finally got on the field for his collegiate debut in the 2016 opener against Florida International. He played in six total games making two tackles including a sack against Maryland.

Heading into the 2017 season Meminger will try and be part of a defensive line rotation that will be welcoming a handful of talented true freshman while bringing back key veterans like Nate Hoff, Jacob Robinson, Greg Gooch, Robert McCray, and Mike Barwick Jr. Having only six games of experience puts Meminger behind the eight-ball, so he will have to make the most of his fall camp reps and he has to be productive in whatever playing time he gets if he wants an expanded role on the defense.
