#69

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kick-off has begun! There are now 69 days until the Indiana Hoosiers kick-off the 2017 season against the Ohio State Buckeyes. That seems like a long way away and I suppose it is, but this countdown will fly by and it will be football season before we know it! Today’s countdown takes a look at #69 Gavin Everett.

Gavin Everett

-Height: 6’3”
-Weight: 245 pounds
-Hometown: Center Grove, Indiana
-Position: Defensive Line

Gavin Everett is an in-state guy that started his football career at Western Illinois, and ended up walking on here after not playing in his first season. He was a really good player in high school, as his bio on IUHoosiers.com states: “Defensive lineman for head coach Eric Moore at Center Grove High School ... earned all-state and all-conference honors in 2014 ... team captain also selected to the Indianapolis Star Super Team ... posted 41 tackles, 10 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries ... Center Grove won four straight regional and sectional championships, and three straight conference championships ... earned seven letters in football and lacrosse”.

He had to sit out last season due to NCAA transfer rules after walking on, but was named the scout team player of the week during the Northwestern and Penn State games. IU should be pretty solid up front on defense next year, but you always need capable bodies in the trenches. That doesn’t necessarily mean he will be helping out in the games, but Everett can be a really solid guy to have in your program based on his pedigree and work ethic. His two time scout team player of the week awards show he is a hard-worker, so maybe it means he can crack the rotation at some point down the line. For next year however, Everett will likely be on the scout team again working behind the scenes towards the Breakthrough.
