We are 65 days away from IUFB kickoff against Ohio State. Time is flying by and we can almost taste Big Ten Media Days. The Hoosiers brought in several defensive linemen in the 2017 recruiting class as they continue to build depth and transition back to a four-man front. Today we look at one of the more talented D-Linemen in in that 2017 class Tramar Reece
Tramar Reece (Freshman)
-Height: 6’4”
-Weight: 220 pounds
-Hometown: Clearwater, FL
-Position: Defensive End
Indiana has mined plenty of talent out of the state of Florida over the last four years, and they have pulled another good prospect out of Clearwater in Tramar Reece, who earned second-team all-state honors as a senior as he recorded 47 tackles, 13 TFLs, 10 sacks while forcing and recovering a fumble. Reece was also a beast on special teams as he blocked both a field goal and a punt. He also found the end zone twice.
The Hoosiers have a clear need for edge rushers along the defensive line in 2017. It was one of the few things missing on the 2016 defense. Reece could come in and help right away in passing situations and special teams. He is only listed at 220 pounds and will need to add some bulk to take on Big Ten blockers in the run game, but Reece could use his speed to create a niche for himself this season before being a four-down lineman in the future.
In an interview with the Herald Times' Jeremy Price Reece's high school coach Don Mesick said, "(Reece) wasn’t the hardest worker in the weight room. His mom really wanted Tramar to go college,” Mesick told Jeremy Price of the Herald Times. “She worked hard for him to go college and wanted him to have the opportunity. I think part of the motivation was to grant her wish, and he saw that he had the opportunity to do that with football instead of basketball. So he’s able to fulfill her dream of him going to school and that plays into it, no doubt.”
