Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 52 Days (DaVondre Love)

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown keeps on rolling today with just 52 days left until the Hoosiers kick-off the 2017 season against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Now nearly halfway through, we’re licking our chops to watch some college football the same way the Hoosiers are licking their chops to get out there and hit somebody. In the meantime, we’ll take a closer look at DaVondre Love.

DaVondre Love (Redshirt Sophomore)

Height: 6’7" 

Weight: 310 pounds

Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri

Positon: Offensive lineman

After redshirting in 2015, and being used sparingly last season, 2017 could be DaVondre Love’s opportunity to #breakthrough. The Hoosiers are replacing several main stays along the line in Dan Feeney and Dimitric Camiel and the year before that they lost Jason Spriggs. This is a group that is going through a big transition with a new offensive staff and new players stepping into starting roles.

Love came to Bloomington by way of Affton High School in St. Louis. While he was there he displayed excellent versatility. Love played on both sides of the ball as an offensive and defensive lineman, but it was while he was protecting the quarterback that he caught Indiana’s eye. Love was named 2014 first team Missouri Class 4 All-State and earned the conference’s Lineman of the Year on an offense that ran for nearly 4,000 yards and came just shy of 60 rushing touchdowns.

In our Spring Practice Preview, we had Love slotted as the second right guard on the depth chart behind Hunter Littlejohn. That said, Littlejohn, along with Simon Stepaniak at center, do not tout much experience. Love has the frame at 6’7’’ to be a big asset and a tall order for defensive lineman to get by, pun intended, so don’t be surprised if he gets the starting nod a few times this season or is at the least in the rotation.
