Countdown to 2020 Kickoff: 38 Days (Jeremy Boyd)
/Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)
Despite the seemingly endless barrage of bad news, as of today, the Indiana Hoosiers 2020 football season is still scheduled to kick-off in only 38 days. That means the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is more than 60% complete and we can see a light at the end of this abominable offseason. Today’s featured profile is on a walk-on from one of Indiana’s most historic football powerhouse high schools, Jeremy Boyd.
Name – Jeremy Boyd
Position – Defensive Back
Hometown – Indianapolis, IN. (Ben Davis High School)
Height – 5’9”
Weight – 183 pounds
Jeremy Boyd, the son of Judy and James Boyd, had an accomplished high school career on the field and in the classroom. Boyd played defensive back for Mike Kirschner at Ben Davis High School and was a teammate of the state’s Mr. Football award winner, Reese Taylor. Their squad won the 2014 state championship, adding to the Giants rich gridiron heritage. He set the program record for the power clean in the 160-180 pound range and was also a star on the track and field team. Away from athletics, Boyd earned an Academic Honors Diploma and was named a 21st Century Scholar.
Boyd came to Bloomington and joined the football program during the 2017 season, officially redshirting that campaign. He did not see any game action in 2018 but he was a standout in practice and earned some scout team honors during the season. Last season, Boyd made his debut and played against Eastern Illinois and Northwestern.
Unfortunately for Jeremy Boyd, he is stuck behind a number of extremely talented players in a very deep position group. It is incredibly difficult to get snaps at defensive back as long as IU continues to recruit and retain players at a very high level in the secondary.
