Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: Day 17 (Jordan Jakes)
/Written by Evan McShane
The second part of our Day 17 Countdown to Kickoff features wide receiver Jordan Jakes.
Name – Jordan Jakes
Position – Wide Receiver
Year/Hometown – Redshirt Freshman from Stockbridge, GA (St. Frances Academy MD)
Height – 6’5”
Weight – 214lbs
When the Hoosiers earned a commitment from wide receiver Jordan Jakes, Grant Heard and the rest of the staff were ecstatic. Standing 6’5”, Jakes’ tall frame and wiry strength made him a unique prospect and potentially dangerous offensive weapon.
Jakes transferred from Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in Georgia to St. Frances Academy in Maryland for his final high school season. At St. Frances, Jakes caught six touchdowns in six games, helping his team win the state championship. Jordan Jakes never lost a football game in high school.
Jakes redshirted his freshman season with a prime focus of adding muscle to his frame. While Jakes demonstrated solid strength for a young player at his height, some extra bulk is necessary to endure a full season in the Big Ten.
The 2020 outlook for Jakes is promising. The talented young wide out should have plenty of opportunities to make big plays this season. With Donavan Hale and Nick Westbrook now graduated, IU has some big shoes to fill at wide receiver. Can Jakes become of the deep threat quarterback Mike Penix and the Hoosiers need?
