Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 84 Days (Turon Ivy Jr.)
/Written by Andrew Walker
We have reached the last of the mid-80’s in Hoosier Huddle’s Countdown to kickoff. Today marks 84 days until the Hoosiers are scheduled to face-off against the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison on September 4th. We take a look at another tight end, Turon Ivy, Jr.
Name – Turon Ivy Jr.
Position – Tight End
Hometown – Redshirt Sophomore from Marist HS in Chicago, IL
Height – 6’5”
Weight – 255 pounds
Turon Ivy Jr. comes into the 2020 football season off a good start to his playing career for the Hoosiers. Appearing in 11 games, Ivy only caught three passes for 24 yards in the win against Eastern Illinois. Even though the production was low for the 255 pound tight end, everything I’ve seen of him in practice and fall camp last year points to a really high ceiling. Ivy’s ability to not only block effectively, but run routes smoothly at 6’5” is a great sign for the future.
Ivy might be able to have an integral role to the Hoosier offense based on any sort of decision with Peyton Hendershot’s eligibility. If Ivy gets his chance, he’ll be competing for playing time with Matt Bjorson and new graduate transfer from the University of South Alabama, Khameron Taylor.
Ivy enjoyed an extremely successful high school career at Marist high school, leading his team to an undefeated season in 2017. He also was a part of two straight conference championships and a state runner up. In his final two years before joining the Hoosiers, Ivy racked up 57 passes for 936 yards and 13 touchdowns. He then joined Indiana Football as the no. 35 ranked tight end in the nation according to ESPN.
