Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 71 Days (Randy Holtz)
/Written by Evan McShane
The annual Hoosier Huddle Countdown marches on through summer with fans as starved for football as ever before. No fear, Hoosier Huddle is here to curb your appetite. This edition of the countdown features incoming freshman Randy Holtz.
Name – Randy Holtz
Position – Offensive Line
Year/Hometown – Freshman from Fort Wayne, IN (Snider High School)
Height – 6’7”
Weight – 350lbs
Coach Tom Allen and his staff were thrilled to earn the commitment of in-state offensive lineman Randy Holtz. Hailing from Fort Wayne, IN, Holtz played for head coach Kurt Tippmann at Snider High School where he was a 2019 Indiana Mr. Football finalist.
A decorated high school career and the gift of pure size made the 6’7” Holtz out to be a promising prospect. Holtz racked up numerous high-major offers (Cincinnati, Boston College, Purdue, Minnesota, West Virginia, and more), but he ultimately chose the Hoosiers.
Holtz was ranked by Rivals as the 14th best player of his class in the state of Indiana and he earned a three-star rating by 247Sports. Indiana is coming off a strong decade of churning out high-level offensive linemen, with six who have been selected in the NFL draft.
Holtz has the size to become a force in college someday, but he’ll need to spend some time in the weight room before his potential is realized. Whether he contributes as a freshman or whether he redshirts, Holtz will be a welcome addition to the Hoosiers.
