Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: Day 23 (Jaylin Williams)
The Hoosier Huddle annual countdown to kickoff is back with new life as the Big Ten has agreed to commence the 2020 season. With IU just 23 days away from the season opener against Penn State, we’ll take a look at defensive back Jaylin Williams from just outside of Memphis, Tennessee.
Name – Jaylin Williams
Position – Defensive Back
Year/Hometown – Junior from Memphis, TN (Germantown)
Height – 6’0”
Weight – 179lbs
Jaylin Williams committed to the Hoosiers back in August of 2017 despite offers from Ole Miss and 15 other schools. When he arrived on campus, Williams was a top-1000 nationally ranked three-star recruit out from Germantown High School in Tennessee. Per 247Sports, Williams was the 75th best cornerback in the country by his senior year in high school.
Williams has largely lived up to his billing, playing in all 12 games at cornerback as a true freshman recording 22 tackles, one sack, and one interception. Last season, as a sophomore, Williams played in all 13 games at cornerback, and was the starter for seven of the final eight contests. Williams recorded another interception, tallying two for his career, and raked up 19 tackles with three pass breakups.
Now entering his first season as an upperclassman, Jaylin Williams will look to assume more of a leadership role within Indiana’s secondary. Along with fellow cornerbacks Taiwan Mullen and Reese Taylor, IU’s defensive backfield brings a combination of youth and experience. One of the fastest guys on the team, Jaylin Williams often finds himself in position to make plays. In 2020, Williams is poised for his best season yet.
