2019 Countdown - #8
Name – James Miller
Position – Linebacker (Redshirt Freshman)
Hometown – Tampa, Florida (Armwood)
Height –6’2”
Weight – 226 pounds
We just a little over a week left until kickoff, the 2019 Countdown to Kickoff is coming to a close. Today we look at redshirt freshman linebacker James Miller.
James Miller made a lot of noise for a player who saw action in just three games, but his performance against Michigan upped the expectations. Miller has the chance to be the next big thing at linebacker for the Hoosiers. He made three tackles in those three games and took how Scout Team Player of the Week honors three times (twice on defense, once on special teams.)
Miller and the rest of the young linebacker corps have gotten the attention of senior linebacker Reakwon Jones.
“We've got a lot of guys ready to play” Jones said, “they're hungry to play. They're very competitive. It's very competitive at every position. Guys are fighting to get on the field. That's what it's going to take to beat teams like Ohio State and Michigan, which are great teams."
“A lot are young guys” Jones added, “they bring a lot to the table. Every player is unique. We have people who are thumpers; people who can really run and cover; guys who can do both. It's competitive in there. We only play two linebackers at the same time, so guys are competing to get on the field."
Miller figures to have a much larger role in 2019 as a redshirt freshman. He has the skill and athleticism to be a force in the Big Ten.
Miller was the Hillsborough County Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 at Armwood High School.
