2019 Countdown - #82
Name – Jacolby Hewitt
Position – Wide Receiver (RS Freshman)
Hometown – Cordova, Tennessee (Cordova)
Height – 6’1”
Weight – 205
Wide receiver Jacolby Hewitt comes to Bloomington from Cordova, Tennessee, where he was ranked one of the 30 best football players in the state. Hewitt, a 6-foot-1, 205, dynamic pass catcher, hauled in 54 receptions for over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. An all-state selection, Hewitt chose Indiana over offers from Memphis and Purdue.
During his first year on campus, Hewitt used his redshirt. He enrolled in classes early and was named scout team player of the week in September. Along with quarterbacks, it seems as though wide receivers will benefit the most from the addition of new offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer. DeBoer was brought into town with one primary objective: make big plays. DeBoer will be throwing the ball deep downfield with regularity and Hoosier wide outs need to be ready.
While not the tallest receiver, Hewitt can use his speed and agility to create space downfield. The responsibility to get the ball downfield will lie in the quarterback’s hands, but whoever emerges as the most dangerous deep threat is likely to see the most action. Hewitt has the luxury of learning from two phenomenal veteran receivers in Donavan Hale and Nick Westbrook. Beyond those two, there will be plenty of chances for young wide receivers like Hewitt to make a name for themselves.
