COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: #75- TOMMY GREENE

Height: 6’2”
Weight:  273 pounds
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois (Marist)

Year: Redshirt Freshman
Position: OL

Less than 11 weeks remain until the long-awaited 2019 Indiana football season. The Hoosiers will make their season debut at Lucas Oil Stadium where they will take on the Ball State Cardinals in a noon game on August 31st. Representing the Hoosiers’ No. 75 jersey this upcoming season will be Tommy Greene.

A few hours south of home, Greene chose to continue his football career with high school teammates TJ Ivy and Gavin McCabe in Bloomington. The offensive linemen of the Marist High School trio, Greene was named conference OL of the year in 2017. He was not only a passionate letter-winner in football, basketball and lacrosse, but an equally dedicated student, as he was academic all-area selection, according to his player profile on IUHoosiers.com.

Greene accepted entry into the Indiana football program as a walk-on during fall camp in 2018 and redshirted his freshman year. Going into his second year at IU, the 6-foot-2 OL weighed in at 273 pounds— 15 pounds heavier than last year’s weigh-in.

In the off-season, head Coach Tom Allen has emphasized the need for growth in the underclassmen: “There’s a bunch of guys that I think we just need to have a great next three months in our offensive line room, our defensive line room,” Allen commented in a Spring press conference, “because of all those young guys that need to grow up. They got to get bigger and stronger and it’s going to show up in the fall. We are going to need them all.” Greene’s one of those young guys. With another year of experience under his belt, he has the chance to help rebuild the OL depth with the loss of the seniors who left big cleats to fill.
