Countdown to 2019 IUFB Kickoff: 66 Days (Aidan Rafferty)
/Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)
2019 Countdown - #66
Name – Aidan Rafferty
Position – Offensive Line (Redshirt Freshman)
Hometown – Kensington, Maryland (Gonzaga College)
Height – 6’6”
Weight – 315
Rafferty landed at IU after a superb high school career at Gonzaga where he earned first team Washington Post All-Met and All-USA District of Columbia. In addition to playing three years of football at Gonzaga, Rafferty played two years of basketball and rugby. In 2016 the Gonzaga team won the national title.
At IU last season, Rafferty redshirted and made his impact on the scout team as he won Scout Team Player of the week twice.
The young offensive lineman heads into the 2019 season off a solid spring and hopes that he will crack the rotation at one of the tackle positions.
“Aidan Rafferty has worked extremely hard. He's gained 50 pounds since he's been here. Well, you got to get used to playing with those 50 pounds that you have now on your body. Those are things that happen” head coach Tom Allen said of the redshirt freshman’s spring.
Rafferty is young, but talented and now he has the size to be a factor, at least from a depth standpoint, for the Hoosiers in 2019. He will battle true freshman Matthew Bedford for the backup spot to Coy Cronk.
