#25 – Devon Matthews (Sophomore)

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 205 Pounds

Hometown: Jacksonville, Florida

Position: Cornerback

Devon Matthews hopped on the scene in Bloomington to contribute right away. The true freshman out of Ribault High School in Tampa, Florida played in ten games at safety. He racked up 20 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Five of his tackles came in a valiant effort against Purdue in the final game of the season. Matthews production at Indiana is translating directly from his prolific high school career.

As a senior in high school, Matthews recorded 60 tackles and an impressive six forced fumbles. He also recovered a pair of fumbles and intercepted one pass, further proving his nose for the ball. Matthews slid right into the safety spot, having been ranked by recruiting services as a one of the 100 best defensive backs in the nation. That common theme of multi-sport athletes rings true again. Matthews lettered in basketball for two seasons. He earned himself the nickname “Monster” in high school after he dislodged a QB’s helmet on a sack as an 8-year old. The Hoosiers are lucky to have Devon Matthews, and he hopes to have a monstrous sophomore season in the secondary.
