The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is in its final leg. Under three weeks remain until the Hoosiers kickoff the 2019 season in Indianapolis against the Ball State Cardinals. Today we will highlight defensive lineman Jonathan King.

Jonathan King (Redshirt Freshman)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 276 Pounds

Hometown: Tampa, Florida

Position: Defensive Line

The defensive line position group will again rely on a “success by committee” strategy in 2019. Defensive line coach Mark Hagen will hope to constantly rotate fresh bodies onto the line all while hoping for improvement from a number of the guys to show what they have flashed at times consistently. One of those players will be redshirt freshman Jonathan King.

Jonathan King joined the Indiana program in 2018 out of Tampa Bay Tech, the same high school as quarterback Mike Penix. He was ranked the number 39 defensive end nationally and the 70th best prospect in the state of Florida by ESPN. King redshirted his 2018 true freshman season as he really did not have the size to make a Big Ten level impact. He did record one scout team player of the week honor against Michigan State. However, this year, after a year with David Ballou and the strength program, King projects to be more of a presence. He will likely serve as a backup along the interior of the defensive line for Juan Harris and Jerome Johnson and should see healthy playing time as Hagen rotates guys.
