Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 95 Days (Brandon Wilson)
The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff has begun. Only 95 days remain until the Hoosiers kickoff the 2018 season on the road against Florida International University. Today we will highlight number 95, Brandon Wilson.
Brandon Wilson (Redshirt Junior)
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 276 Pounds
Hometown: Winter Garden, Florida
Position: Defensive Line
This is now the 4th defensive lineman we have highlighted in our 100-day countdown to kickoff. Coached by Mark Hagen, the Hoosier defensive line has become a strength of the improving defensive unit in the past couple years. Last year’s defensive line finished fifth in sacks and ninth in rush defense in the Big Ten. Unlike other aspects of the defense, however, the defensive line has established its success through its depth and production by committee. Hoping to make an impact in 2018, most likely on the edge of a committee, is Brandon Wilson.
Brandon Wilson came to the Hoosiers as a part of the 2015 recruiting class recruited by former head coach Kevin Wilson. Brandon, a three-star prospect from West Orange High School in Florida, came out of Florida before it was such a commonplace for this program. Wilson was a strong performer for the scout team early in his career and received much praise from former Coach Wilson before his sophomore year.
After graduation and jumps to the NFL, defensive lineman Brandon Wilson is one of the few returning players on the defensive side of the ball that recorded a start last year. He made nine appearances as a sophomore and recorded nine tackles, including a career-high four on the road against Penn State. Despite his upperclassman experience, Wilson will have to continue to give maximum effort to see the field with lineman such as Jacob Robinson, Mike Barwick, and Allen Stallings, among others, all returning. Wilson can rest his hat on the fact that Coach Hagen will likely play 10-12 defensive lineman, but with three incoming freshman, headlined by James Head, along with Syracuse graduate transfer Kayton Samuels, Wilson has no easy task in front of him. Outside of the defensive side of the ball, Wilson’s experience can likely land him a role on special teams.
