Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 93 Days (Leshaun Minor)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 307 pounds

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN (Ben Davis High School)

Class/Position: Sophomore/Defensive Tackle

There were high expectations for LeShaun Minor coming out of high school. He was in the Indiana Football Coaches Association Top 50 and all-state as a senior. Minor also earned the Indianapolis Star position award winner for defensive line, and he was on the 2016 Indianapolis Star Super Team after getting 80 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in his final year. Minor was ranked the No. 5 overall defensive tackle in the Midwest, the No. 6 recruit in the state of Indiana and the No. 29 defensive tackle in the nation by Scout.

Minor was living up to his lofty expectations in his first six games as a Hoosier until an injury kept him out for the remainder his freshman season. Through the first six games, Minor recorded eight tackles, five solo, one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup. In his first game at IU Minor faced No. 2 Ohio State, making three tackles and a half-TFL.

Minor is competing with redshirt senior Mike Barwick, redshirt senior Ja’Merez Bowen, senior Jacob Robinson, redshirt junior Brandon Wilson, redshirt sophomore Jerome Johnson and graduate senior transfer Kayton Samuels. I think Robinson is the clear starter given that he started all 12 games last season as defensive tackle, earning 26 tackles, 15 solo. I think Minor will see playing time, and he showed flashes of his abilities against last year’s Big Ten Champion in the season opener against Ohio State. Minor has great size, and if he stays healthy I would expect to see him on the field every single game.
