Countdown to Kickoff: #80- Jonathan King
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 255 pounds
Hometown: Tampa, FL (Tampa Bay Tech)
Class/Position: Freshman/Defensive End
The Florida pipeline continues with the addition of Tampa native Jonathan King. The six-foot-three defensive lineman was teammates with fellow freshman Mike Penix at Tampa Bay Tech. As a senior at Tech, King earned first team all-county by posting 60 tackles including 17 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. During his four years King made 20.5 sacks, 44 TFLs, 29 QB hurries, six fumble recoveries (1 TD), four forced fumbles and two blocked field goals.
Heading into 2018 King could become an impact freshman if he can add the weight needed to survive the Big Ten season. He does have some quality players in front of him, which may mean a redshirt year. However, if King can impress the defensive coaches and a few of the players in front of him go down, he could see his name called.
