Welcome to another edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff! We are under two months remaining until the 2018 season gets underway and today’s edition of the countdown focuses on one of the bigger Hoosiers on the roster and veteran depth piece along the offensive line: DaVondre Love.

A native of the “Show Me State”, Love came to IU after playing on both sides of the line at Affton High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He was named to the All-State team as an offensive lineman in 2014 and was recognized as his conference’s “Lineman of the Year” as Affton went 12-1 and made a semifinal appearance in the playoffs. Football was not all that Love excelled at as he lettered in wrestling and track and field.

Love committed to Kevin Wilson and the Hoosiers and joined the program for the 2015 season. He redshirted and made his debut in 2016, appearing in a trio of games. Last season saw him appear in the final 11 games but he is still without a start as he enters his redshirt junior season. It does not appear likely that he will begin the season as a starter as IU returns everyone from the 2017 offensive line, adds a healthy Brandon Knight (we hope) and transfer Nick Linder. In addition, guys like Mackenzie Nworah, Harry Crider, Ryan Smith, Caleb Jones and Britt Beery are all a year stronger and more ingrained in the system. In short, IU is now deeper along the line and playing time will be even harder to come by. That being said, Love is a veteran big body that can provide quality depth, both in practice in games. Having a 6’7” player with game experience that can get reps at practice and be relied upon to sub in during games is not something to scoff at.
