Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 36 Days (Drew Conrad)
Drew Conrad (Redshirt Sophomore)
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 187 Pounds
Hometown: Greenwood, IN (Center Grove)
Position: Punter/Holder
Drew Conrad was a two-time second team all-state selection at Center Grove High School in Indiana. Conrad helped Center Grove win the 2015 Indiana Class 6A State Championship, capping off an undefeated 14-0 season. Conrad joined the Indiana football program as a walk-on in 2016 and redshirted that season. As a redshirt freshman, Conrad served as the backup punter to Haydon Whitehead. He also fulfilled holding duties on extra points and field goals during a season in which IU kicker Griffin Oakes made 16-of-17 field goals and won the Big Ten’s Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year Award. Conrad also stole the show with a video submission for the Peter Mortell Holder of the Year Award during the 2017 season.
Conrad will again serve as Whitehead’s backup at the punter position. Depending on Indiana’s field goal kicking situation, Conrad will be the holder in 2018. With Haydon Whitehead a redshirt junior this upcoming season, Conrad will have a chance to supplant him as a senior. Tom Allen has placed a major emphasis on special teams since he took over the throne at IU. The Hoosiers have backed that claim – ranking 11th in the nation in special teams last season. For now, the Hoosiers will rely on Conrad’s trusty holding ability and take comfort in the depth they have at punter.
