Antwaan Randle El is considered IU’s greatest quarterback, accomplishing feats that had never been achieved during his prolific career. He was the first player in NCAA history to score 40 touchdowns (45) and throw for 40 TDs (42), the first to record over 2,500 total yards in four seasons and the first to both pass for over 6,000 yards and rush for over 3,000 yards.
The Riverdale, Ill native is on the 2019 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. He was All-Big Ten in 1999, 2000 and 2001, and he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1998. Randle El was the Big Ten MVP, a first team All-American and sixth in Heisman Trophy balloting in 2001. He left a legacy at IU, finishing with 7,469 passing yards (second-most in school history), 3,895 rushing yards (second-most in school history) and 87 touchdowns. One of the best dual threat quarterbacks in collegiate history, Randle El was inducted into the Indiana Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Randle El as the 62nd pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. His speed and elusiveness made him a successful wide receiver, kick returner and punt returner in the NFL. He played in the league for nine seasons with the Steelers and the Washington Redskins. In 2005, he won Super Bowl XL, and he threw a touchdown pass as a wide receiver for the Steelers against in that victory.
The Super Bowl champ is a household name for Hoosier faithful and one of the best to ever put on a Hoosiers jersey.
