On the final weekend before fall camp gets underway, Kevin Wilson and his staff secured the verbal commitment of three-star defensive tackle Derrius Mullens out of Columbus, Ohio. Mullins is the 11th commitment in the Hoosiers 2017 recruiting class and the ninth on the defensive side of the ball.

Mullins is a 6'3.5" 354-pound defensive tackle who is rated as the 29th best player in Ohio and the 679th best player in the nation according to 247 Sports composite rankings. Mullins committed to Indiana on Saturday afternoon after consulting his family this past week. He said, "coaches treat each other with respect and it felt like home." Mullins main recruiter was both Kevin Johns and Kevin Wilson and they have been recruiting Mullins since the beginning. "IU is the only one from offers (that's) been there since the beginning and the end. All the commits contacted me to get on board."

His mother, Miss Mullins, is excited to have his son heading to Indiana saying, "they treated Derrius and I like family from the very beginning."

During his junior year Mullins put up impressive numbers accounting for 70 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, four sacks, and a fumble recovery at St. Francis DeSales High School. Mullins had 12 offers including Boston College, Cincinnati, Purdue, Pittsbugh, Kentucky, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
