Tom Allen and the Hoosier coaching staff received a huge boost for the 2018 recruiting class as South Carolina defensive back Elijah Rodgers pulled the trigger in favor of IU on Saturday afternoon. Rodgers, out of Blacksburg H.S. in Blacksburg, S.C. is a 247 Sports three-star prospect. He made his announcement via Twitter.

The statement on his twitter post reads:

"First of all I'd like to thank God for blessing me and allowing me to be in the position that I'm in. i would like to thank each school that has offered me a scholarship to play at their respective universities this far in my recruiting process. I'd also like to thank my family, friends that are like family, teammates, and my HS coaching staff for everything they've done for me. It's always been a dream of mine to play college football. With that being said, I would like to announce my commitment to Indiana University. I am still open to all offers and will not completely shut down my recruitment at this time. #BreakThrough"

Rodgers, at 6-foot-1 and 160 pounds holds offers from nine total schools including BYU, Cincinnati, and Purdue. He is the second commitment to the Hoosiers 2018 class, which sits 10th in the Big Ten extremely early in the recruiting cycle.

Rodgers played both quarterback and cornerback in high school. On defense he shows a nose for the ball and has a knack for the big hit. You can watch his HUDL Tape here.
