Adam Henry is Recharged and Ready to Coach IU's Wide Receivers

New Indiana wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Adam Henry needed a break after a year that saw him lose both parents in a seven month span as he helped coach the Dallas Cowboys wide receivers to a division title in 2021. He turned down a Super Bowl invitation from Odell Beckham Jr. and needed some time off. That is when Indiana head coach Tom Allen reached out to a recharged Henry about coaching at Indiana.

“I wanted to take some time off and then Coach Allen reached out to me. I had heard a lot of positive things about him and from what I am seeing now, it is real. It is just a great fit for me right now.” Henry said at his introductory press conference.

Henry has quite the resume coming to Bloomington as he has experience in both the NFL and the SEC. He has coached stars like Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper. He knows what it takes to handle big personalities and make them big stars on the field.

“That is the biggest thing about being a pro on and off the field, about being a technician with your craft. We know at this level, in the Big Ten, it is big time football. You have to be on your game each and every week. For me, it is about the consistency and the preparation. If I can bring that to this group; the confidence, the energy, the enthusiasm, I am just ready for that at this point and time.” Henry explained.

One of the common themes in all of the hires Allen has made this off-season has been being a teacher and a life long learner. Henry fits perfectly into that philosophy as he holds a masters degree in education and is big into reading, a staple of Allen’s staff in the past.

“it's all about being a pro because if I come and approach meetings, the meeting time, the preparation is so important. So for me to bring that to the room and then bring that over to the practice field, because we've got to develop those things. We're going to work those things at individual meetings, and then we're going to work on my individual periods on the field and then how much we get to a team setting then the transfer over there. So remember that repetition is the mother of all learning so we just have to get the reps in and they keep repping those things, the little fine details of it.” Henry said.

After a whirlwind of a year, Henry is ready to get back on the field after a brief recharge and it seems like Indiana is a perfect fit for him because it feels like family, which is what Henry needed.

“So I'm recharged, ready to go and out the blue Coach Allen calls.” Henry explained. “I just feel like this is a great opportunity for me. It's what I needed at this point in time. And so I'm just excited to be here.”
