Welcome back to the 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! From now until Indiana’s opening day against the FIU Golden Panthers, the Hoosier Huddle staff will feature every player on the Hoosiers football roster for 2024. Today, the featured player for 10 days out is Aiden Fisher.

COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 10 Days – Aiden Fisher

Hometown: Fredericksburg, Virginia

High School: Riverbend High School

Class/Position: Junior / Linebacker

Previous Schools: James Madison University

Aiden Fisher arrives in Bloomington with huge shoes to fill. One of Indiana University Football’s huge bright spots over the years has been stellar linebacking units leading the defense. Players like Aaron Casey, Micah McFadden, Cam Jones, and Tegray Scales in recent years have been anchors and leaders for the Indiana Hoosiers. Fisher, now, aims to leave a similar legacy as these Indiana-great linebackers after enrolling as a Hoosier from James Madison University this past year, following Head Coach Curt Cignetti.

Fisher’s story begins as a 0-star recruit per 247sports.com, where he committed to James Madison University. Quickly, the nation would find out that stars are simply just shapes, as Fisher blossomed into one of the best linebackers in the country. During the 2023 season, Fisher combined for 108 total tackles, putting him at 36th in the country (Aaron Casey, for comparison, had 109 total tackles and was 33rd in the country). Fisher also came through when it mattered most, totaling 17 tackles in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl against The United States Air Force Academy.

Looking at Fisher’s Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades, he finished the 2023 season 72nd in the country in PFF pass rush grade among linebackers and 93rd in the country in PFF pass coverage grade among linebackers. Another year in Bryant Haines’ system, this time in Crimson and Cream, will no doubt bring an even stronger mastery of the linebacker position for Fisher.

Tasked with being the “quarterback of the defense” by Coach Cignetti - quoted from a 247sports.com article by Matt Weaver - Fisher will begin the season as the starting middle linebacker for the new look Hoosier defense. Fisher, meanwhile, will no doubt be looking to continue Indiana University’s rich linebacking history by writing his own story and bringing a “fire to win” games moving forward.
