2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 95 Days (Sean Wracher)

Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today we look at the Hoosiers’ long snapper Sean Wracher.

Name: Sean Wracher

Hometown: Akron, Ohio (St. Ignatius)

Position: Long Snapper

Year: Fifth-Year Senior

Height/Weight: 6’4”/216 pounds

Social Media: Twitter (@Seanwracher95)

NIL Store: Opendorse

Wracher came to IU as one of the best long snapping prospects in the country out of St. Ignatius High School in Akron, Ohio. He has lived up to the billing as well. Wracher has played in 45 games for the Hoosiers since 2019. His stats won’t jump off the sheet, but he has two total tackles and his snaps have been all but perfect setting up his punters and kickers for success.

For four-straight seasons Wracher has earned Phil Steele All-Big Ten honors (Third Team 3x, Second Team 1x).

Indiana head coach Tom Allen has also praised Wracher for his impact on special teams.

“Sean to me, one of our most valuable players, especially when you start thinking about most valuable players that nobody knows much about, but his value to this team is immense. He's so consistent and he's so dependable, kind of for gets he's there but he always does his job.” Allen said last season.

Allen also noted that Wracher’s job is not just snapping the ball to the same spot repeatedly. Since IU directionally punts, he has to angle it just right, so it does not mess up the protection.

“Great snaps, great location, directional punt. It's not like he snaps straight back to the punter every single time. There are different legs you snap it to based on where we are going to punt it. There's a lot more to it than might even appear.” Allen explained.

As a fifth-year senior, Wracher is also a leader on special teams.

“He's leader of the special teams unit. Takes tremendous pride in it and has high expectations. A lot of those guys do things on their own during practice and he leads that group. Invaluable to have his consistency.” Allen added.

Long snappers usually live outside of the limelight and are only in it if they botch a play. However, Wracher has become a consistent and valuable part of the Hoosiers during his time in Bloomington.
