2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 91 Days (LeDarrius Cox)
/Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)
The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today, we are focusing on a very large piece of the interior of Indiana’s defensive line: LeDarrius Cox.
Name: LeDarrius Cox
Hometown: Mobile, AL (transfer from Ole Miss)
Position: Defensive Line
Year: Redshirt Senior
Height/Weight: 6’4”/298 pounds
LeDarrius Cox is only entering his second season in Bloomington but on this particular defensive line, he qualifies as an Indiana long-timer. In a position group populated heavily by first-year transfers, LeDarrius Cox is a second-year transfer and a redshirt senior that has played a lot of high-major football. His return, along with his fellow Ole Miss transfer Patrick Lucas Jr., was a key cog as the staff rebuilt the defensive line this offseason. The Hoosiers lost a few interior defensive linemen and badly needed the return of Lucas and Cox to anchor the middle of Indiana’s defense.
LeDarrius Cox starred at McGill-Toolen High School in Alabama before committing to Ole Miss. He joined the Rebels in 2019 and redshirted that first season, appearing in three games. Cox then played ten games in 2020 before Lane Kiffin’s staff moved him to the offensive line for the 2021 season. Cox transferred to IU for his redshirt junior season and appeared in all 12 games as a solid interior lineman. He is now expected to be a starter as a defensive tackle and pair with players like Nick James, Patrick Lucas Jr. and Robby Harrison on the rotation of the interior. The Hoosiers have to get better against the run and Cox is going to need to have a strong final season to help make that happen.
The countdown continues with a new profile each and every day so come back to hoosierhuddle.com daily!
