After a lot of turnover in the secondary, Indiana was in need of replacements this offseason. They found a good one through the portal in Texas transfer Jamier Johnson. Johnson was a highly ranked recruit that played 17 games over his two seasons with the Longhorns, tallying seven tackles and a pass break-up. His greatest strength is his length and athleticism, giving him the ability to cover stud receivers in man coverage.

When he entered the portal, Johnson was drawn to the family atmosphere that Coach Allen and his staff have created.

““I chose Indiana because the coaching staff here treated me like family,” he said. “Coach Allen and Coach Shelby welcomed me in with open arms.”

Though he is new to the team, Johnson is expected to be one of the leaders of the secondary by himself and Coach Shelby. Along with learning the new playbook, leadership is his main goal for the season.

“The thing I've been working on is being a vocal leader and leading the group,” he said. “I'm one of the older guys in the group, so definitely just leading the younger guys.”
