2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 67 Days (Kahlil Benson)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today we look at offensive lineman Kahlil Benson.

Hometown: Southaven, Mississippi (Southaven)

Position: Offensive Line

Year: Redshirt Junior

Height/Weight: 6’6”/325 pounds

Benson was a big recruiting win for the Hoosiers but had to redshirt his freshman season due to an ACL injury that set his development back in 2020. 2021 was his official redshirt season with 2020 being a “Covid year” and Benson did not see any game action.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2022, Benson played in all 12 games for IU and moved into the starting the final five games at right guard.

This season, Benson is penciled in as the starter at right guard, but will have to fend off Max Longman, a transfer from UMass, in fall camp. For the offensive line to be successful, Benson needs to help shore up the right side that was plagued by injuries and underperformance a year ago.
