2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 25 Days (Amare Ferrell)

Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today’s profile features true freshman defensive back Amare Ferrell.

Name: Amare Ferrell

Hometown: Lake City, FL (Columbia)

Position: Defensive Back

Year: Freshman

Height/Weight: 6’2”/210 pounds

Ferrell is one of the true freshmen who has a chance to immediately impact the team. The four-star recruit is coming in at a position of need at safety, although he probably moves to linebacker later in his career.

“He is a big guy that can move, and really, really good tackler. He has really good feet and can run.” Head coach Tom Allen said of Ferrell on signing day.

Ferrell looks the part of a Big Ten safety and was in for spring practice. He will, at the very least, be in the rotation early for IU.

Allen added that he is “Excited about his future. It's going to be very, very bright, and he is a guy that will be here midyear as well and have a chance to come in and compete to play right away. I know that's his goal.”

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff rolls on with Day 24 tomorrow!
