/Written by: Zach Greene
Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2022 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2022 Indiana University football season on September 2nd against the Fighting Illini. Every day, we look at players on the current roster and highlight the players' roles in the upcoming season. Today we dive into sophomore tight end Sam Daugstrup.
Name: Sam Daugstrup
Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio
Position: Tight End
Year: Redshirt Sophomore
Height/Weight: 6-5/ 220
Twitter: (@samdaugstrup)
A three-star out of Saint Ignatius High School in The Forest City Daugstrup was a sought-after recruit receiving offers from Georgia Tech, Akron, and Ball State. Indiana showed much interest in the young man but had to walk on during the covid 2020 season. Last season, he did not appear in any games but won offensive scout player of the week against Penn State and Academic All Big-Ten.
Standing at 6’5 Daugstrup showed a fantastic ability to block during high school plowing over linebackers. He was able to get into the second level with force and create running lanes. His ability to create plays struck out and be at the right place at the right time. Here are some of his tape http://www.hudl.com/v/2Fi59d
This season, Daugstrup will be battling for reps in the tight end room. Expect AJ Barner to be the starter, but Daugstrup might be able to get in some game action alongside Aaron Steinfeldt, and Brody Foley.
