2022 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 100 Days: Dasan McCullough
/Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)
Welcome to the 2022 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We are now officially underway as we countdown from 100 to the beginning of the 2022 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will take a look at one (or two) players on the current roster and highlight the players role in the upcoming season. Today, we take a look at Dasan McCullough and Emery Simmons. Both of these players wear “0” but the site will be quite busy on the opening day of the season covering a massive contest against Illinois. Thus, Simmons and McCullough begin the countdown!
Name: Dasan McCullough
Hometown: Bloomington, IN (Bloomington South)
Position: Linebacker
Year: Freshman
Height/Weight: 6’5”/223 pounds

The last name likely sounds familiar to IU fans. Dasan’s father is none other than former two-time IU running backs coach Deland McCullough. Dasan committed to the Hoosiers after his father left the Kansas City Chiefs to return to Bloomington. Deland left Tom Allen’s staff to go to Notre Dame after the 2021 season but Dasan held firm to his commitment and will be suiting up for his freshman campaign this fall. McCullough was a consensus four-star prospect and a top 50 recruit making him the highest rated incoming player in program history. He began his high school career at Blue Valley North High School in Kansas and played his final season at Bloomington South. Dasan is a very intriguing player because of his size and athleticism. At 6’5” and nearing 230 pounds with good length and a frame that can add more bulk, McCullough could begin at outside linebacker but quickly transition to an edge pass rushing specialist. IU has struggled to find difference making one on one pass rushers, a skill that is incredibly rare, and ideally McCullough could help fill that role.
The current expectation is that Dasan will begin the campaign with the ability to play both linebacker and the BULL position in rush downs. While the depth at those positions is pretty good, IU has to find a way to get an athlete like Dasan McCullough on the field. I would not expect him to start in 2022 but he should see the field for plenty of snaps.
