Monster Matthews is poised to have his best season yet. He won Indiana’s DPOY last season, totaling 55 tackles, 31 solo, one sack, four for loss, one INT, and four PBUs. He started all nine games at strong safety for Indiana and made his presence felt the entire season. When Matthews gets on the field, the entire defense plays better. The previous year as a junior, he collected 40 tackles, 26 solo, one sack, two TFL, one INT, six PBU and one QB hurry.
Matthews was recently listed in an explanation on how the character of this Hoosier squad is progressing. Matthews being listed among other veterans in the locker room like Cam Jones, Tiawan Mullen, Jaylin Williams, Matthew Bedford is high praise and deservedly so.
Matthews’ high school career wrapped up quite impressively, bringing in 60 tackles with six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one INT, and seven PBUs as a senior. He joined Indiana as the no. 74 ranked cornerback nationally by ESPN and the no 92 safety nationally by 247Sports.
