The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is a quarter of the way complete! For the 100 days leading up to kickoff, we at Hoosier Huddle will feature every player from the 2022 roster in anticipation of Indiana’s first game of the season against Illinois in Bloomington. Today, we will highlight third-year offensive lineman for the Hoosiers, Luke Wiginton.
Luke Wiginton (Redshirt Sophomore)
Hometown: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 298 Pounds
Position: Offensive Line
Entering his third season with the Hoosiers, offensive lineman Luke Wiginton has spent his tenure so far gaining strength in the weight room and preparing to hopefully see time on the field in the coming years. Wiginton joined the team as a member of the 2020 class, ranked a 3-star prospect by 247Sports and the 9th overall prospect in the state of Indiana by Rivals. Playing for head coach Jason Garrett at Bishop Dwenger High School, Wiginton helped lead the team to a 2018 state championship along with semifinals appearances in 2017 and 2019.
Wiginton is one of a number of younger offensive lineman prospects for the Hoosiers that, despite recent struggles with the line, have not yet recorded playing time. In what feels like a make-or-break year for offensive line coach Darren Hiller, the Hoosiers may rotate guys more often through the line than they did in the past, which could allow players like Wiginton, Vinny Fiacable, Tim Weaver, or Randy Holtz to see time. Wiginton earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last season studying psychology.
