Trey Walker
Winnetka, Ill.
Redshirt Sophomore
6’5”/ 245 pounds
Trey Walker is a walk-on tight end for the Indiana Hoosiers. Although he has not seen any regular season snaps in two seasons. He has been a huge help to the Hoosiers’ game-day preparations.
In 2019, Walker redshirted in his first year on campus. He was assigned to the scout team and was one of the more reliable walk-ons in that role. The tight end received an offensive scout team player of the week honor against Purdue as well as a special teams scout team player of the week against Penn State.
The walk-on followed his freshman year up with another stellar season. In his second year on campus, Walker was named offensive scout team player of the year. He also received a scout team player of the week honor against Wisconsin as well as an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
The rise of Walker has been an interesting one to watch. Tight end is not only a new position for Walker, but football is also a new sport for him. Walker did not play football at New Trier High School, instead, he was a three-year hockey varsity letter winner.
This upcoming season, Walker will look to continue to learn his relatively new position. The road for playing time is a bumpy one for him. Peyton Hendershot and Matt Bjorson are the top tight ends on the roster, and they won’t relinquish playing time. Walker will have to do his job as an excellent scout team tight end.
