The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is over halfway complete! Forty days remain until Indiana’s first game of the season against Iowa in Kinnick Stadium. Today, we will highlight a member of the Hoosier defense, linebacker Cameron Williams.
Cameron Williams (Redshirt Sophomore)
Hometown: Merrillville, Indiana
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 218 Pounds
Position: Linebacker
The 2021 season will mark the third year in the program for linebacker Cameron Williams. Williams was the second highest rated recruit of the 2019 recruiting class, behind running back Sampson James. The Rivals and 247Sports 4-star prospect was ranked as the 5th best player in the state of Indiana and 301st nationally. He had a dominant high school career in which he compiled 124 tackles, 17 sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles over his final two seasons. His speed and long arms make him a great outside linebacker candidate in future Indiana defenses.
So far at Indiana, Williams has tallied five games of experience. He played in the Northwestern win in 2019 before redshirting the season and seeing four games worth of action in 2020. He has not yet tallied a stat but continues to progress on the field and in the weight room. Williams was listed at 230 pounds on the roster last season before cutting down to a leaner 218 this year. He’ll likely make a presence this season on special teams and in backup linebacking duties.
Cameron’s one word for 2021 is Durability.
