2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 26 Days Part I (Gabe Cohen)

For part one of the Countdown to Kickoff we focus on a walk-on who transferred from Villanova a couple years ago, Gabe Cohen. We are 26 days away from the kickoff of the 2021 Indiana football season when the Hoosiers travel to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes.

Name: Gabe Cohen

Hometown: Sloatsburg, NY

Position: Defensive Back

Year: Redshirt Senior +

Height/Weight: 6’1”/212 pounds

Cohen came to Indiana by way of Villanova prior to the 2019 season. After seeing limited time as a freshman in 2016, Cohen played in 16 games over his sophomore and junior seasons with the Wildcats and collected 50 tackles with four pass breakups.

In 2019 Cohen made his Hoosier debut in IU’s big win over Northwestern while becoming an impact player on the scout team. Cohen is a five-time Scout Team Player of the Week for the Hoosiers. Despite not seeing any game action in 2020, Cohen was stellar in the classroom earning Academic All-Big Ten honors.

Cohen could find the field more in 2021 through special teams play. Having a player of his experience on that unit and on the scout team speaks to the depth that Indiana has stockpiled over the last few years.
