The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is in its final days! Just two days stand between Indiana’s first game of the season against Iowa in Kinnick Stadium. Today we will highlight the players wearing the number two jersey this season, Reese Taylor and Jacolby Hewitt.
Jacolby Hewitt (Redshirt Junior)
Hometown: Cordova, Tennessee
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 198 Pounds
Position: Wide Receiver
Somebody had to take over the role of most energetic and talkative in the wide receiver room after Whop Philyor headed to the NFL, and if the mic’d up video posted by Indiana Football a couple weeks ago is any indication, that man will be Jacolby Hewitt. Hewitt enters his third year with the Hoosiers and has caught five passes for 68 yards thus far. He missed his freshman season with an ACL injury but began to make a name for himself last season by appearing in all eight games. No catch was more impactful than his first career reception – a diving snag in the fourth quarter of the season opener against Penn State to set Michael Penix and the offense up inside the ten-yard line to tie the game and send it to overtime.
From reports out of camp, Hewitt has had a strong fall and will compete for more playing time this year.
“Jacolby has been making a lot of big plays and showing great things out there on the field,” said Allen earlier this fall camp.
The competition in the receiver room remains stiff – Ty Fryfogle, DJ Matthews, Cameron Buckley, Miles Marshall, David Ellis, Javon Swinton, and more all are at the disposal of wide receiver coach Grant Heard – but Hewitt surely should continue to see the field and have his opportunity to make an impact.
