2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 16 Days (Grant Gremel)
/Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)
We are just 16 days away from the Hoosiers season opener in Iowa City. Today we look at reserve quarterback Grant Gremel.
Name: Grant Gremel
Hometown:Noblesville, IN
Position: Quarterback
Year: Redshirt Sophomore
Height/Weight: 6’ 3”/200 pounds
Gremel is entering his third season with the Hoosiers after joining as a walk-on during the 2019 season. A Noblesville, Indiana native Gremel was a two-sport athlete at Noblesville High School. He has not seen any game action, but has won Scout Team Player of the Week and was a 2020 Academic All-Big Ten Selection.
After getting thrust into more action during spring practice, Gremel and the rest of the walk-on quarterbacks received praise from head coach Tom Allen. “They all do a good job. They were part of our scrimmage and are good, solid players with a high care factor.” Allen said. “They got quite a few (scrimmage) reps and did some good things. That's why we recruit a room full of guys who do the little things right."
The Hoosiers have three scholarship quarterbacks who are available to play this year, so it may be hard for Gremel to find his way on to the field much in 2021. However, his strong work ethic is a great addition to the scout team that helps the Hoosiers prepare each week.
