Ramsey and Dominant Special Teams Unit Spark Hoosiers to 34-17 Road Win

For more than 20 minutes of Saturday afternoon's contest in Charlottesville, the Indiana Hoosiers offense appeared stuck in neutral. The Hoosiers trailed 3-0 and Richard Lagow had underthrown a pass to Luke Timian that was intercepted by Virginia's Juan Thornhill. The Hoosiers turned to redshirt freshman Peyton Ramsey and the attack immediately kicked into gear. Ramsey connected with Simmie Cobbs on a quick slant and IU's star receiver bounced off tacklers and got some nice blocks as he ran in for the opening Hoosier score on a 29-yard reception. IU forced a three and out and J-Shun Harris had a very nice punt return to the Virginia 30. Ramsey scampered around the left side of the line, found a seam and jogged into the end zone for a 26-yard score that put IU up 14-3. Griffin Oakes nailed a 51-yard field goal as time expired in the first half and the Hoosiers finished the final 6:13 of the first half by scoring 17 straight points.

From JUCO to Big Ten, Richard Lagow and Ian Thomas Play With an Inherent Chip on Their Shoulder

From JUCO to Big Ten, Richard Lagow and Ian Thomas Play With an Inherent Chip on Their Shoulder

Written By Evan McShane (@reasonableguy)

No one likes to be told they aren’t good enough. It’s a hard pill to swallow. This can be the reality some high school football players face when they turn to junior college. There is no uniform path to make it to the Big Ten – Ian Thomas and Richard Lagow are prime examples. The quarterback and tight end share a special bond having risen the ranks via junior college football, also known as JUCO. Lagow explains, “The JUCO experience is very unique and not a lot of guys can understand it when you talk about it; just kind of the struggles that you go through at junior college and how much we appreciate every single thing about being at a place like Indiana University because we didn't have any of this at JUCO.”

Week Two Match-Up to Watch: Jonathan Crawford & Tony Fields vs. Virginia's Wide Receivers

Week Two Match-Up to Watch: Jonathan Crawford & Tony Fields vs. Virginia's Wide Receivers

Week one came and went, and just like that, IU is back on the road in a nearly must-win situation. They played decently against Ohio State on Thursday, but the big plays and inability to run the ball effectively ultimately doomed the Hoosiers in their quest for one of the biggest wins in school history. IU has now completely shifted their focus to the Virginia Cavaliers, who are fresh off a 2-10 season and a 28-10 win over FCS William & Mary. The big plays I just talked about killed Indiana on Thursday, and that is my matchup to watch for this week.
